I am happy to announce a new Guest Writer. Robert Kramer will share his personal experiences and knowledge about disability rights. More importantly, he will share insights that may help you navigate an increasingly tedious, hostile system to secure the necessary funding and services for yourself or a loved one. Robert's articles will necessarily need to discuss the changes enacted by the Republican "big beautiful bill" in 2025, which include massive cuts to social safety nets in health care and quality-of-life disability services.

The United States lacks a public option for long-term care, except that Medicaid is the sole safety net for low and moderate-income individuals. It is estimated that 60% of the elderly in long-term care are Medicaid dependent. Yet, the Republicans cut up to an estimated $1 TRILLION from Medicaid. There was also a $536 billion cut to Medicare

WHY THIS MATTERS:

Over 40% of all U.S. pregnancies and newborn care are covered by Medicaid. Those of us who have disabled family members can see the writing on the wall. These cuts will require a greater share of the costs to be shifted to households that simply can't afford the outrageous costs of health care and adult services. What will come over the next decade are inhumane choices brought about by unnecessary budget cuts and forced austerity, unless we, the People, reverse course. Yet, these same politicians don't address the costs of the services, which can only be done by giving government negotiating power and create a single payer system.

There are no set objectives for Robert Kramer's blog articles. I am allowing him to decide on what to share from his personal experiences. Just stay tuned for important information! Robert's bio follows:

Robert Kramer recently retired after a 60-year career in advertising, marketing, and corporate communications. He received a B.A. degree in communications from the Newhouse School at Syracuse University. Fighting for disability rights is personal for Robert, as his older brother George is developmentally disabled. Robert and his parents embraced  George with love, education, and understanding in their family home. Since their parents died, Robert and his extended family of four daughters and ten grandchildren continue to surround George, now 87 with love and support.

Thank you, Robert for offering to share your knowledge. Welcome aboard.
